Business Partner Code of Conduct
Preamble
We are BTA, the Baltic insurance market leader. A human-centered company driven forward by technology and innovation. Our goal is to create sustainable Corporate Social Innovation initiatives that help society and the environment.
Consistently taking care of sustainability and reducing the negative effects of climate change, BTA received certificates of compliance with the international ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 standards. These certificates declare that BTA invests in sustainability and is determined to continue working according to the principles of good management.
We expect our Partners to familiarize themselves with the Business Partner Code of Conduct, which defines the standards of behavior we encourage.
- Compliance with Laws and Regulatory provisions
Our business is transparent and fair, we abide by the laws of the Republic of Latvia. We are sure that the Partner must comply with all the legislation governing his activities as well. Should any requirement of this Code be contrary to law, the Partner shall comply with the more stringent.
- Zero tolerance for corruption
We are oppose all forms of corruption and bribery. We expect the same from our Partners.
- Fair Competition
BTA assuredly stands up for fair competition. We expect that the Partner also follows this principle in their work.
- Compliance with anti-money laundering and international sanctions
The Partner shall comply with all applicable laws and regulations concerning anti - money laundering, sanctions, prohibitions or restrictions imposed by United Nations resolutions or trade or economic sanctions, regulatory acts of the European Union, the Republic of Latvia, the United Kingdom or the United States of America.
- Avoiding conflicts of interests
The Partner shall avoid any situations where a conflict of interest between the Partner and BTA exists. The Partner is expected to recognize any potential conflict of interest in its relationship with BTA and shall disclose it.
- Prohibition of discrimination
We respect and guarantee fundamental human rights and freedoms. The Partner must refrain from any discrimination. No discrimination based on ethnic origin, skin colour, race, nationality, religion or belief, disability, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, marital status or maternity/paternity, trade union membership, political opinion or age shall be tolerated.
- Fair working conditions
The Partner shall not use forced or inmate labour. It shall ensure that Employees are protected from cruel or inhuman treatment at the workplace. No one shall be a subjected to physical punishment, physical, sexual, psychological abuse or harassment. It is also forbidden to threaten employees with the use of such measures. Forced exploitation or slave labour is strictly prohibited. The Partner must recognize and respect the right of Employees to freely join organizations and conduct collective negotiations.
- Child labour
We acknowledge the child's right to be protected from economic exploitation. The Partner shall not employ any workers younger than provided by national regulatory enactments, protect workers of minor ages from work which, by its nature or the circumstances in which it is carried out, is likely to harm their health, safety or morals. Minors cannot work at night.
- Occupational safety and health
The Partner shall provide its employees with a safe and secure workplace. Any violation of fundamental human rights at the workplace shall be prohibited. The Partner shall comply with fire safety requirements. The Partner is expected to take appropriate measures to prevent accidents and damage to health.
- Penalty System
We do not use or allow the use of corporal punishment, violence or other forms of psychological or physical coercion, and we expect the same from our Partners.
- Remuneration and working hours
We respect and value each of our Employees. The Partner must also comply with the legislation on working time, minimum wages, overtime, breaks and rest periods, sick leave and annual leave, parental leave and compulsory protection (e.g. social security), and ensure that all workers are made aware of their basic working conditions before commencing work.
- Environmental Protection
We are a sustainable Company, committed to operating in an environment – friendly manner and responsible use of natural resources. We are trying to slow down climate change, we want to continuously increase our greening, and we ask our Partners to do so. The Partner must comply with environmental requirements. Measures to reduce environmental impact shall be encouraged and any environmentally harmful substances and processes must be considered. Any impact on the environment shall be avoided or minimized if it can be ensured by proportionate measures. Natural resources shall always be used sparingly, and environmentally hazardous materials are handled with great care.
- Subcontractors
Subcontractors used by the Partner must adhere to standards consistent with this Code. The Partner must inform the subcontractors about the provisions of this Code and ensure that it complies with the requirements and standards mentioned therein.
- Breach Notification and Duty to Cooperate
If the Partner suspects that the provisions of this Code have been violated, he shall report this immediately and cooperate in investigating the violation and its circumstances.

- Audit
If necessary, the Partner shall make it possible to verify compliance with the Code. The measures to be taken to achieve this goal shall be adequate and proportionate.
- Final Provisions
In the event of a breach by a Partner of his obligations under this Code, a reasonable time limit shall be set for the correction of the breach or, where the nature of the breach makes it impossible to do so, a warning shall be issued. If a Partner fails to remedy an infringement or commits a repeated infringement, the contract with the Partner may be terminated.
