Daugava Stadium and Daugava Stadium Athletics Arena get new names

As part of the long-term cooperation between the Latvian National Sports Centre Ltd (LNSC) and AAS BTA Baltic Insurance Company (BTA), an active lifestyle campaign has been launched and the Daugava Stadium and the Daugava Stadium Athletics Arena will be renamed "BTA Daugava Stadium" and "BTA Daugava Stadium Athletics Arena".   

At the same time, the campaign "Every movement brings improvement!" is launched to motivate the public to move more and improve their quality of life. Lack of physical activity is a serious problem in Latvia: only 9% of people regularly engage in sports and almost half of the population spends their leisure in a sedentary way. The number of healthy life years in Latvia is the lowest in the EU - 54.3 years for women and 52.6 years for men. BTA and LNSC want to change this by inspiring the general public to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. 

"With the campaign "Every movement brings improvement!" we want to draw attention to the importance of movement in everyday life and the importance of creating an environment that motivates people to be more active. Changing the name of the sports centres is the next step in our cooperation. The new name keeps the historical name of "Daugavas stadion", which is already well-known and popular in the community. This preserves the stadium's historical significance and contribution to the development of sports in Latvia, while giving it a modern and contemporary look. We hope that with this initiative we will be able to inspire more people to find joy in movement and make it an integral part of their everyday life," says Oskars Hartmanis, Chairman of the Board of BTA. 

The campaign "Every movement brings improvement!" will include a number of initiatives to encourage people to adopt an active and healthy lifestyle. Informative materials and digital content will be available at sports bases to educate about the importance of physical activity and its health benefits. The campaign will also involve athletes and active lifestyle enthusiasts who will share their experiences to inspire the wider public to become more active. The aim of this initiative is not only to create opportunities to play sport, but also to encourage long-term habits for a healthier everyday life. 

LNSC chairman of the board Daniēls Nātriņš points out: "Together with BTA, we want to create an environment that encourages people to take a more active role in their health and lifestyle. This partnership will bring active lifestyle initiatives to life and help create a healthy awareness of the importance of physical activity in our daily lives. These types of collaborative models are widespread all over the world and are a normal part of the pathway for sports infrastructure development. It is important for us that our partner has an impeccable reputation and a philosophy that creates an organic synergy with the objectives of our strategy. BTA can certainly be seen as such, and we look forward to the next three years of cooperation."   

BTA has committed more than EUR 245 000 to the cooperation with LNSC. The plan is to work together to promote active lifestyle by organising information campaigns. The cooperation will take effect in March 2025 and will last for three years.
